Bangladesh consulate for Puerto Rico
Checked against the official pages on 22 October 2026. How we check.
Puerto Rico is one of the five territories that the Embassy’s passport page sends to Washington. Miami is nearer in a straight line, but it is not the office for the island; the trip is a flight either way.
Which Bangladesh consulate serves Puerto Rico?
Puerto Rico is one of the five U.S. territories that the Embassy’s passport page names among the places that apply to Washington (source). The three consulates general cover eight states each and no territory.
Cities in Puerto Rico and their Bangladesh office
None of the seven places listed for Puerto Rico has a road link to its Bangladeshi office: an in-person visit means flying.
In a straight line, the Bangladesh Consulate General in Miami is closer than the Embassy’s consular wing in Washington to all seven cities this site lists in Puerto Rico. Distance does not decide the office: the published list does.
Birth and marriage records in Puerto Rico for a Bangladeshi office
In Puerto Rico, the CDC’s directory sends birth certificate requests to the Demographic Registry of the Department of Health, in San Juan, at P.O. Box 11854, San Juan, PR 00910, 5 Mayaguez Street, 9th Floor, Hato Rey, PR 00918 (CDC, Where to Write for Vital Records).
Its note on those records reads: “The Central Office of the Demographic Registry has records relating to all citizens born as of April 22, 1931”.
For a marriage registered in Puerto Rico, the directory says: “The Central Office of the Demographic Registry has records relating to all citizens married as of April 22, 1931” (CDC, Where to Write for Vital Records).
For a U.S. paper from Puerto Rico, the state’s apostille is an option since 30 March 2025, when the Convention began to apply between the two countries (HCCH status table). Check with whoever will receive it in Bangladesh, because the consular pages still ask for attestation.
For state documents the competent authority is generally the Secretary of State’s office (HCCH).
What you can settle without going to the consulate
Some Bangladeshi paperwork starts by mail or online.
- You can mail an NVR application with a prepaid USPS return envelope: No Visa Required (NVR).
- You can fill out the e-passport application at epassport.gov.bd before your enrollment visit: Bangladeshi passport.
- You can fill out the birth registration form on bdris.gov.bd and mail it with the papers: Birth registration.
A U.S. citizen of Bangladeshi origin travels on the NVR stamp rather than a visa; the Embassy and the three consulates general charge the same $88 for it.
