No Visa Required (NVR) for Bangladesh: who qualifies, the $88 fee and how to apply by mail
Checked against the official pages on 22 October 2026. How we check.
The NVR goes in your U.S. passport.
The Embassy says citizens of SAARC countries are not eligible, and that a foreign investor with five million dollars in Bangladesh can also get it (Embassy NVR page).
When the passport expires, the stamp goes with it: you apply again in the new one, and the Embassy accepts the old passport with its previous NVR as proof.
What to send
The Embassy asks for its NVR form, a recent photo with a white background, your original passport and a copy of its data page (Embassy NVR page). Proof of Bangladeshi origin can be any one of these:
- an old or valid Bangladeshi passport;
- a dual nationality certificate;
- an NID;
- an online birth registration certificate;
- a citizenship certificate from a union parishad or city corporation.

The offices use different NVR forms. The Embassy asks for its fillable PDF, printed; Los Angeles makes the online form at visa.gov.bd mandatory, printed with its barcode. (sources: 1, 2)
| Who | Proof of Bangladeshi origin |
|---|---|
| You were born in Bangladesh | Your Bangladeshi passport, NID, dual nationality or online birth certificate |
| Your child, born in the U.S. | The U.S. birth certificate naming the parent, and that parent’s proof |
| Your foreign spouse | The marriage certificate and your proof |
For a child, Los Angeles also asks for a notarized affidavit from both parents saying the child is theirs (Los Angeles page); for a spouse, the Embassy asks for a notarized declaration that the marriage is unbroken.
Same day or by mail
At the Embassy the NVR is a same-day walk-in service: drop-off from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and collection from noon to 1:00 p.m. The schedule comes from a notice of September 2024 (Embassy notice), and the Embassy’s NVR page, updated on 21 July 2026, still gives it (Embassy NVR page).
The four offices also take NVR applications by mail, with a prepaid USPS Priority or Express return envelope and its tracking number; the Embassy refuses FedEx and UPS return envelopes, and Los Angeles refuses FedEx (Embassy, Los Angeles).
