Bangladesh NID card from the USA: voter registration, the biometric visit and who can apply
Checked against the official pages on 22 October 2026. How we check.
The National Identity Card is issued by the Election Commission, and the Embassy and the consulates general take the enrollment for people living in the U.S. (Embassy NID page).
You apply online at services.nidw.gov.bd and give a valid Bangladeshi phone number, because the election officer of your upazila may call to check who you are.
The four steps
The Embassy lists them: apply online, book the biometric appointment while you apply, enroll in person on the day, and collect the card.

After enrollment you get a slip; when the NID is ready you can download a system copy, and the smart card is handed over once it arrives from the Election Commission (Embassy NID page).
Miami’s NID page says you book an appointment on the Election Commission’s site before you come. Its notice of 3 September 2026, after a pause for technical problems, says that no appointment of any kind is needed for NID enrollment at the consulate. (sources: 1, 2 in Bengali)
Miami had paused NID enrollment for technical problems on 31 August 2026 and announced the service back to normal on 3 September 2026 (pause notice, in Bengali, notice, in Bengali).
