How far the consulate is from your city
Driving distances to the consulate that covers each city, calculated at posted speed limits and without traffic:
| City | Consulate | Distance | Journey |
|---|---|---|---|
| Allentown | New York | 93 miles | 2 h 4 min by car |
| Philadelphia | New York | 97 miles | 2 h 8 min by car |
| Pittsburgh | New York | 375 miles | 7 h 30 min by car |
| Erie | New York | 436 miles | 8 h 17 min by car |
From Erie that is 8 h 17 min by car each way, which makes it worth checking the consular outreach schedule before committing to the drive: missions bring passport and dual citizenship services to cities without a consulate, and the appointments are free.
What you do not need a consulate for
Three of the most searched Philippine procedures in the United States are not consular procedures at all, and knowing that is worth more than knowing the opening hours:
The short version: PSA certificates are ordered online from Manila, apostilles on documents issued in Pennsylvania come from the state's own competent authority, since 15 May 2019 the consulate cannot authenticate them, and the NBI clearance travels by mail; its fingerprints can be taken at a consulate or at a police station, according to the NBI.
What does require you in person is your biometrics for a passport and the oath of allegiance. A special power of attorney can be signed at the consulate or before a local notary and then apostilled, according to the notarial page of the Chicago consulate.
By road, Philadelphia is 97 miles from the New York consulate and Pittsburgh 375. The Embassy in Washington has no jurisdiction over Pennsylvania, so it cannot take your appointment.
